Software developer rates in 2026 vary about 4x by country. Vendor surveys put senior hourly rates at roughly $140–200+ in the US, $110–160 in Western Europe, $60–80 in Central & Eastern Europe, $65–90 in Latin America and $42–55 in South and Southeast Asia. Mid-level engineers cost roughly 25–30% less than seniors, juniors about half. A full-time senior CEE engineer at 160 hours a month costs about $9.6k–12.8k.
Hourly rates by region and seniority
What a client pays per hour through an agency or outsourcing firm, not salary.
| Region | Junior | Mid-level | Senior | Time-zone note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| United States | $70–100 | $100–140 | $140–200+ | US time zones |
| Western Europe (UK, DE, NL, FR, Nordics) | $55–80 | $80–110 | $110–160 | CET/GMT |
| Central & Eastern Europe (CZ, PL, RO, UA...) | $30–45 | $45–60 | $60–80 | EU business day, US East Coast mornings |
| Latin America (MX, BR, AR, CO...) | $35–50 | $50–65 | $65–90 | Close to US time zones |
| South / Southeast Asia (IN, PH, VN...) | $20–32 | $32–42 | $42–55 | 4–6 h from CET, 9–13 h from US East |

Hiring a developer
- Job post & sourcing
- Interviews
- Notice period
- Onboarding
- Building
Yarify
- Call + fixed quote
- Building + weekly demos
- Live. Iterating with users.
Illustrative timeline. In-house hiring usually spends months on sourcing, interviews and notice periods before the first commit.
A senior engineer, per month
At 160 billable hours a month. Compare this with a fully loaded in-house hire.
| Region | Senior hourly rate | Per month (160 h) | Per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| United States | $140–200 | $22.4k–32k | $268.8k–384k |
| Western Europe | $110–160 | $17.6k–25.6k | $211.2k–307.2k |
| Central & Eastern Europe | $60–80 | $9.6k–12.8k | $115.2k–153.6k |
| Latin America | $65–90 | $10.4k–14.4k | $124.8k–172.8k |
| South / Southeast Asia | $42–55 | $6.7k–8.8k | $80.6k–105.6k |
Calculated from the hourly ranges above. Real contracts run 140–168 hours a month.

Freelance and directory benchmarks
| Source | What it shows | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Arc (2026) | Next.js freelancers about $60–100+/h | Vetted remote freelancers, mostly mid to senior |
| Lemon.io | Senior developers from about $55/h | Marketplace rate for vetted freelancers |
| Clutch directory (Oct 2026) | Most listed firms $25–49/h; US firms mostly $50–99/h | Blended agency rates across seniority |
Self-reported listings, approximate, not directly comparable with the seniority table.
Illustrative example: cheap rate, pricey project
Illustrative example with assumed numbers. The same feature set, two teams.
| Team A: junior-heavy offshore | Team B: senior CEE | |
|---|---|---|
| Blended hourly rate | $30 | $70 |
| Hours to ship | 1,100 (incl. PM, rework, extra QA) | 450 |
| Build cost | $33,000 | $31,500 |
| Your management time | High: daily clarification | Low: weekly demo |
| Code you keep | Often needs refactoring | Tested, documented |
Illustrative example. The hours ratio is an assumption, not measured data. Compare total hours and who writes the code.
Rate vs salary: compare fully loaded
An hourly rate includes taxes, benefits, equipment, holidays and margin. A salary does not. US BLS data puts wages at about 70% of private-industry employer compensation costs (June 2026).
So a senior CEE engineer at $9.6k–12.8k a month can undercut a local hire. Full model: in-house vs outsourcing.
Compare rates honestly
-
Ask who is billable
A $45 blended rate with PM and QA may pay for 0.6 of an engineer.
-
Compare hours
A senior team at a higher rate often costs less overall.
-
Check overlap
Four shared hours a day keeps decisions fast. See nearshore vs offshore.
-
Read exit terms
Notice period and IP ownership matter more than a $5/h discount.
No rate card. A real price instead.
Projects get a fixed written quote after a free scoping call; on MVP and rescue fixed scope, if our estimate was wrong, the extra hours are ours. Staff augmentation and dedicated teams get a monthly price per engineer: monthly billing, 2 weeks' notice, 100% of the code and IP is yours.
- Senior engineers only.
- CET, overlapping EU and US East Coast mornings.
- We tell you on the first call whether we have capacity.
Questions buyers ask us
What is the average hourly rate for a software developer in 2026?
It depends on region and seniority. Senior rates run about $140–200+ in the US, $110–160 in Western Europe, $60–80 in Central & Eastern Europe, $65–90 in Latin America and $42–55 in South and Southeast Asia, per 2026 vendor surveys.
How much does a senior developer cost per month?
At 160 hours: about $9.6k–12.8k in Central & Eastern Europe, $10.4k–14.4k in Latin America, $17.6k–25.6k in Western Europe and $22.4k–32k in the US. Compare with the fully loaded cost of an employee, not the salary.
What is the hourly rate of a freelance developer?
Vetted marketplaces list senior freelancers from about $55/h (Lemon.io); Arc lists Next.js freelancers at about $60–100+/h. Freelancers are cheaper per hour, but you take on management, QA and continuity risk.
Are Czech developers cheaper than German developers?
Typically yes. CEE senior rates sit around $60–80/h versus $110–160/h in Western Europe, under the same EU law and GDPR. See software development in the Czech Republic.
What does Yarify charge per hour?
We do not publish an hourly rate. Projects get a fixed written quote after a free scoping call. Augmentation and dedicated teams get a monthly price per engineer, with monthly billing and 2 weeks' notice.
Is it cheaper to hire a developer in-house or outsource?
For senior skills, outsourcing is usually cheaper per month once you count fully loaded employee cost, recruiting and ramp-up. In-house wins when you need the skill full-time for years. See in-house vs outsourcing.
